Earth Delta Alpha 1.6
It’s That Time Of The Month…
Yes, it’s that time of the month… well, not THAT time of the month… it’s the time of the month when Lizard posts another Alpha of Earth Delta (make your own damn Greek letter joke this time). I thought this would be in Beta by June 1, even possibly done? Bwaahahah! At least I suspect it will go faster for Paragon and Epic, in that the main rules tinkering will be done-ish.
Earth Delta 1.6
Oh, in case someone wandered over here by accident (as if!), Earth Delta is Lizard’s take on Gamma-World style mutant adventuring, done for Fourth Edition Dungeons&Dragons rules.
This version brings us ever closer, Zeno’s-paradox style, to Beta. The Savage is there (not quite to level 10, but close), which is the last class I wanted to put in. Robots still need some love… sweet, sweet, cyber-love… but they’re “good enough”, especially if you’re clever enough to figure out the plan is to reflavor most Personal Mutations to be Robot Parts and apply a little common sense. Natural Weapons got another go-round to bring them into line with non-natural weapons. There’s been some major changes in attributes for the classes, thanks to whining helpful advice and feedback from my playtesters, and, dammit, they’re right. I, personally, like “Attribute A for attack, Attribute B for damage, Attribute C or D for bonus effect”, but the game design doesn’t support it well, and, hell, my classes are still what the wonks on RPG.net call “V Shaped” when they should be “A Shaped”. Whatever. I despise the “20 in my primary stat, 8 in everything else” model, and if I can discourage it mechanically, I will. Nyeah!
Where was I?
Oh yeah. In terms of progress towards beta… this is very close to being “Beta Release Candidate 1”. Feature-wise, everything I think I need for beta is in place or reasonably stubbed out. I won’t be adding “Exotic” (non-humanoid) races at this stage, but they’re for sometime in the future. There’s enough mutations, tech items, and monsters to sustain a playtest campaign, especially if the DM is willing to do a little work — which would not be something I’d claim is acceptable in a release version, but if you’re going to playtest something in late alpha, you ought to expect rough edges. I am hoping that there won’t be major changes to any of the core mechanics at this stage, though I am sure there will be a lot “+1 to +2” style modifications.
There’s also the usual panoply of More Stuff… monsters like the Killer Fractal, the Stormcroc (level 8 solo controller), and the Holographic Gunfighter. The beginning of the new Temporal Bloodline, which allows you to summon an echo of yourself from the future to fight by your side. Level 1 Dailies for Scholars… oops. Probably some stuff I’ve forgotten, oh well.
(On a side note, if anyone downloading this a)has a blog, website, etc, and, b)likes what I’m doing, please, feel free to link to whatever page seems appropriate.. the more feedback I can get on this, the better!)
